Kid Central
We want to make each child and his or her relationship
with Christ our "central" priority. The Children's Ministry
works to assist children and their families in understanding and building a
personal relationship with God. We want each child to know the loving
grace of Jesus through sound biblical teaching and worship, so that each
child grows toward a Christ-like maturity and becomes empowered for service.
Areas Of Ministry
Preschool Ministry
The Preschool ministry of Central Church of Christ is
split into the following departments:
 | Nursery: Birth to walking |
| Toddler: Walking to 2 yrs |
| Jumpin' Jungle: 2 yrs to 4 yrs |
| Faithful Fishes: 4 yrs to Kindergarten.
(All preschool classes meet in the South children's wing). |
This department is secured with an operating tag system.
This means that only the parent or guardian with the tag matching the tag
assigned to the child will be permitted to pick up the child. We do this so that each parent feels safe leaving their child in our care.
| Infant and toddlers - are in separate areas of
the nursery on Sunday mornings. Loving individuals care for your child
while you attend services. A silent paging system allows parents to
attend worship, yet be instantly paged if the child needs attention from
the parent. The toddler age group has a brief age appropriate lesson and
snacks. |
| Sunday School - Classes available for children
age 2 through Kindergarten. Active learning time goes on during both or
these learning hours. Programs are designed so that a child
staying for both hours gets a full and busy second hour of different
learning (not just a repeat of the first hour). |
Elementary Ministry
| Sunday School - Bible learning for all kids
grades 1-6. Sunday mornings, 9:00 am. (all of these classes take
place in the West children's wing) |
| Junior Worship - For kids 1st-6th grade, in the
gym. Includes a time of worship,
videos, devotions, and active lessons in a "Kid Appropriate"
learning setting. Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. |
| Awana - is our Wednesday evening program for
children 3 years to 6th grade meeting from 6:15 - 8:00 p.m. It is a
Bible Learning Club with lessons and a fun game time. The program
runs continuously throughout the school year. |
| Meet Me At. . .Summer Sunday evening program (6:30
p.m.) - During the summer months the Children's Ministry offers the
"Meet Me At. . . program for kids age K - 6th grade. Meet Me At
involves field trips to various locations around Streator for a lesson
and fun activity. A parent or adult needs to accompany their children to
all off campus site. |
| Terrific Tuesdays - is our summer program.
We offer fun outings for the children to different places of
interest. Last year we went to Wild Life Prairie Park, Lincoln
Park Zoo, Ottawa Pool and other places. |
| SonShine Singers - SonShine Singers is our kids
singing group. If your child enjoys singing and is in 1st
- 6th grade we invite them to come and be a part of this
singing group! They meet on Sunday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00
p.m. SonShine Singers perform two musicals each year, Christmas
and one in the spring. They also perform as a special a few
times each year in our regular Sunday morning services. |
| Rock River Christian Camp - A Christian camping
experience for kids in a wooded setting. Rock River provides a variety
of camping opportunities for all ages. |
| Kid's Night Out - A once a month program for
kids, age K-5th grade, involves a fun night out for children. KNO takes
place on the second Friday of each month. The children have a great time
playing games, working on craft projects, movies, pizza and more. KNO
runs from 6-9 p.m. |
| Halloween Alternative, Easter Egg Hunt, V.B.S. and
other special activities take place throughout the year. |
